Until October 23, 2024, Co-op Members can aid the African Community School (ACS) by shopping at Co-op stores. This initiative supports the mental wellbeing of 20 marginalised Global Majority women facing complex challenges.

We’ve been a registered charity since January 2000 and are also Ofsted registered. We help those in need to build their confidence, learn new skills and empower them to gain employment.
In our safe and welcoming space we conduct flexible and affordable, OCR and NCFE accredited educational and training sessions.

Who we work with
- 5-16 years old

- Children at risk from underachievement, disaffection or social exclusion, anti-social behaviour and lack of social and emotional needs
We promote community cohesion by ensuring our services are accessible to all ethnic groups in the community
Our Programmes
- Revision classes for GCSE and SATs tests, homework support, ICT classes, African dance and drumming classes
- Extra tuition to improve performance for both primary and secondary school subjects: KS1 to KS4
- ICT classes for young people
- Youth programmes: drug awareness education, self development, confidence building, and encouraging confident participation through peer education schemes and peer mentoring
- Educational/cultural trips to places of interest
- Sports (football), games, and adventurous outdoor activities
- Parenting classes
- Educational/cultural trips to places of interest
- Sports (football), games, and adventurous outdoor activities
- Educational seminars/workshops and African cultural events for families
- Summer school scheme incorporating cultural, social and educational aspects
- Family Learning programme
- Adult Learning Programme focusing on ICT (accredited through OCR), English, Maths & Early Years
- Access to arts and creative activities engaging and motivating young children
